What if coaching, sports, arts & psychology came together?
As I have been working on my new 1:1 and group services/offerings, I have been pondering ways to explain the broadened approaches I have been studying and discovering and intend to bring to this work.
It has got me thinking… What if ideas, theories and discoveries weave together even more so than we usually acknowledge?
Healthcare, parenting, teaching, life / business coaching, sports coaching & mindset work, leadership, consulting, counselling, therapy, art therapy, spirituality, caregiving and so on...
In my opinion they have more in common than not.
They are all linked by the human spirit and the human experience.
They hinge on relationships, connection, belonging, feelings, fears, effort, expression, beliefs, desires, needs, comfort, safety, collaboration, compassion, compromise, curiosity and so much more.
It all involves self understanding as well as the understanding of others.
Any relational dynamic involves the health, wellbeing, self awareness and mood of the individual and how they interact with the collective.
The ‘success’, ease and positive outcomes of these situations and roles rely on many things like:
If and how we listen to ourselves and others
How we speak to ourselves and others
How we encourage, advocate for, accommodate for others
Whether we enquire about or aim to understand others
Whether we honour or forgive, ourselves and others
And…How do we treat or react to people we disagree with, who upset, offend or mistreat us?
How much grace, patience do we offer?
When do we defend or deflect?
When do we raise concern? Handle conflict? Disappointment? Misunderstandings?
There have been many times in my life I have been 'sure' about things and deeply committed to my point of view that have since shifted or at least softened. With time, maturity, more life experience, more education, more compassion and so on.
But something that continues to prove itself to me over and over, is that relational, leadership and teaching skills are not inherent to everyone.
Not everyone is a natural communicator, leader or teacher. Those things are absolutely a combination that can be learned, practised, shared and shouldn't be assumed. And even those of us with natural aptitudes for or enjoy those things, can always deepen our understanding, discover new perspectives and try new practices, tools and modalities.
Which is why I have become obsessed with this intersection of the human experience and relational dynamics.
And it has become an experiment and area of great learning for me.
I really enjoy and find great fulfilment in making things, on my own and with others. I love team sport, games, activities and play. I love arts, crafts, comedy and live performance. I also I really enjoy and find great fulfilment in mothering, caregiving and taking care of others.
And I find in all of these spaces and roles a recurring theme, the desire and disappointments that come with belonging, connection & expression.
Which brings me back to my original question, how are we relating to ourselves and then how are we relating to others? And what effect does that have on our self worth, self image & trust and our communications, connections and interactions. Whether those others are family members, friends, our children, our sports team, our coach, our clients, customers, our community group or our broader community.
We spend so much time and effort separating the personal and the professional. The internal and the external, our private home vs a public group, leading a sports team vs a board of directors. Parenting a toddler vs serving a client.
And I wonder if it misses the point? I think it’s arbitrary and often unnecessary. I think it’s over-complicated things and tangled many of us up in rules, expectations and segmentation.
So in a time when we're more overwhelmed than ever, what do we do instead?
And most importantly in this scenario, what I want to do about it? How can I help? Myself, my community and my clients?
Well, I’m weaving it all together in a way that feels approachable and really honours the human experience and encourages the human spirit.
I’m offering a supportive service that combines modalities, theories and approaches in a way that feels fun. Easeful. Encouraging.
Balanced with feeling worthwhile, meaningful and actually has a positive impact on your life, your experience, your spirit.
Where enjoyment and epiphanies can co-exist!
A coaching, teaching and creative therapy-inspired service that facilitates ways for you to check in with yourself and what you need and want.
Using whatever modalities suit you and your wonderings, such as arty activities, reflective questions, playful games, intuitive card readings and good old coach-y chats.
My work is a love letter to creativity, curiosity and courage.
It nurtures your passion & hopes and those of the groups, teams and families (chosen or not) that you bring along.
Here we are getting curious about individual or collective performance and experience. What would feel satisfying, meaningful or fulfilling to you.
We’re digging into relational dynamics. Artistic, intellectual or physical expression. Our desires, disappointments, frictions or fears.
Together we can ask and play with questions like:
Do you understand yourself and the way you communicate, relate or react?
How is your heart, mind, body & what do they need?
How do you feel expressed, involved, connected?
How do you have moments of joy, fulfilment and relaxation?
What do you want to make, experience or contribute to?
What roles/projects/experiences feel most satisfying, meaningful or fulfilling to you?
And how do you want to be a thoughtful leader or healthy contributor in your relationships, teams, jobs and communities?
Not all at once though, don’t worry!
So who is this for?
I love working with all kinds of people and groups but I am especially passionate about 'helping the helpers'. Because they are the folks who care, serve, support, heal, educate or encourage others, but they need all those things too! They are often the strong ones, the brave ones, the gentle space holding ones, and they deserves spaces to unravel and unleash, to share and play and feel supported and nurtured too.
So I’m offering coaching and creative therapies to the caregivers.
The allied health professionals, nurses and ambos. The teachers, carers and counsellors. The artists, team leaders and service providers.
The ones who listen, help, support, teach, lead and care for others. This is for you. A space where you don't have to do any of those things. You don't have to take care of anyone but yourself. You don't need to be the expert or have a plan. You don't need to take charge or watch the clock.
Where you get to be playful, truthful, hopeful. You can bring your worry, confusion or frustration. And you get to cultivate more creativity, curiosity and courage. You support everyone else (whether you get paid for it or not), and I want to support you.
